Christopher "Chris" Melton, 61, of Gastonia NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

Christopher "Chris" Melton was born in Charlotte, NC, the youngest of four children. He graduated from West Charlotte High School. Chris was a member of the Track and Field Team and played football. He and his buddies were members of the Elite “Hi Phi Hi” High School Fraternity.

Chris joined the United States Navy and served on the USS Raleigh as an Aviation Support Equipment Technician. His hobbies included eating and cooking homemade biscuits. He was a diehard Carolina Panthers fan. Chris thought of himself as a “Mr. Fix It.” He would take anything apart from cars, lawnmowers and telephones.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Melton; his sister, Anita Pamela Spencer; and brother, Jeffrey Leon Spencer.

Chris is survived by his brother, Samuel Bernard Spencer of Asheville, NC; special cousins Linda Flowers of Charlotte, NC and Tammy Lane of North Brunswick, NJ; and dear friend, Sharon McLean of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves to cherish his memory cousins, nephew, nieces, and a large number of wonderful friends.
