Clarence Elroy Strickland, Jr. was born on September 17, 1949, in Shelby, North Carolina. He was the third of four children and son of the late Reverend Clarency Elroy Strickland, Sr. and Maxine Robinson Strickland. He gained his wings the evening of June 18, 2023, Father's Day, at Atrium Main Hospital. As a minister's son, Clarence knew God at an early age and we know the Lord was by his side when he transitioned.
Clarence was educated in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, graduating from West Charlotte High (DUB C) in 1967. He continued his education at Charlotte Business College, earning an Associate degree in Accounting in 1969. Clarence met his soulmate, Verlon McLean, in high school to whom he would marry and have two daughters, Trinicia and Kensie. They were married for fifty-four years.
Clarence worked many jobs, including Pelton and Crane, Duke Energy, and finally retiring from AT & T. After retirement, he worked part time at Enterprise Leasing, prior to becoming ill in 2022. In addition to his multiple jobs, Clarence was also a jack of all trades and loved teaching his nephews, son-in law, grandchildren, friends, and anyone who needed help with anything. He was a very meticulous man and made sure it was done correctly. Clarence never met a stranger. He was admired and loved by many. He will be deeply missed.
Clarence was an avid drag racing participant and fan. He also loved old western movies. His passion for most of his life, outside of his family, was keeping Blu Boy, his 1973 Blue Chevrolet, in pristine condition.
Left to cherish his memories are devoted wife; Verlon McLean Strickland; his daughters Trinicia Strickland King (Larry), Kenise Cathey both of Charlotte, grandchildren; LaBria King, Landen King and Cameron Cathey all of Charlotte, NC; sister Rosalind Strickland Morrison; brother Charles Strickland (Evelyn) as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Preceding him in death was his eldest sister, Marilyn Strickland Dorsey.
