Obituary

Clarence "CW" William Wall, 79 of Charlotte passed away on May 18, 2023 at Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.

Clarence "CW" William Wall, son of the late Elizabeth Wall Partlow and Mannie Vance, Sr., was born September 13, 1943.  He departed from this life on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House – Huntersville.

Clarence, a native Charlottean, attended local public schools.  After graduating, he worked at various welding companies in the Charlotte area including R.H. Bouligny, Inc.   This experience led him to follow his passion to become a minority business owner, thus he opened Wall's Welding & Fabrication in 1974.  For 45 years, he and his employees serviced both commercial and residential customers in the city of Charlotte and surrounding counties.  This included many buildings in uptown Charlotte, the Charlotte Coliseum, aka Bojangles Arena, Ericsson Stadium, aka Bank of America Stadium and many more.  Not only did he impact the infrastructure of the city, but as a certified welder, he also created opportunities for young welders to work and receive certifications under his leadership.

In 1974, he rented his first building on the corner of Mint and Morehead.  He later relocated and purchased the second location on Bland Street.  God continued to guide his path and bless his business which enabled him to purchase land and build a 3,700 sq. ft. building at 1108 South Graham Street where he operated until his retirement in 2019.

Blue, his favorite color, was the signature color for the business. He would often tell new customers "to look for the blue building" when giving directions.    This color is symbolic of the characteristics of trust, responsibility, dedication and bravery.  As a young black man in the mid 70's, he portrayed all of these as he stepped out on faith to build a business of integrity.

In addition to devoting his life to his business, he also found time to give back to the community by feeding the homeless at Thanksgiving, ministering to residents in area nursing homes and hosting annual holiday dinners with friends, family and business associates.

As a servant of God, he was an active member of Greater Galilee Baptist Church, serving as a member of several choirs, Sunday School teacher, youth advisor, Trustee and Deacon.

Clarence was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Wall Partlow; father, Mannie Vance, Sr.; and sister, Ruby Darby.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 38 years, Millicent Mobley Wall; children, Michael Wall, Aquanetta Miller, Darryl Watson (Viveca), Teresa Simon (Ronnie), Tawanda Allen and Crayton Talley; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Mannie Vance Jr. (Mary); sisters, Bessie Massey (Rev.
