Mrs. Cozetta Green, 79, of Concord, passed away on March 9, 2016 at her residence. Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Grier Memorial Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Salisbury on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
Cozetta Hirsch Green was born May 8, 1936 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Beatrice Portwood and Roosevelt Allen Hirsch. She was one of eight children (Dorothy, Levi, Alberteen, Albert, Max, Maxine, and Allen). She worked with the Department of the Treasury serving many roles, the last being Executive Assistant to the Regional Commissioner for EEO covering the North Atlantic Region. She retired in May of 1994.
Cozetta, also affectionately known by many as, "Mama G", was an active member of Concord Baptist Church of Christ in Brooklyn, New York for over 50 years. Her energy was immeasurable. She served on the Board of Deaconesses. She was also a youth advisor for the Baptist Youth fellowship for over thirty years as well as a youth advisor for the Progressive Baptist Convention. Her many church club memberships included the Pastor's Aid, James B. Adams Missionary and the Praise and Worship Team.
Cozetta served her community as one of the founding Board of Trustee Members for the Concord Nursing Home where she was treasurer since 1977. She was a lifelong member for over 51 years of her beloved Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She has received countless professional and personal awards and recognitions during her many years of service.
Cozetta had a strong and caring yet no nonsense spirit. She worked tirelessly, always encouraging others to do and be their best. She leaves her husband, Thomas F. Green, Jr., of 58 years, her daughter, Melanie Green Witherspoon, and treasured son-in-law, Victor Witherspoon Sr., her grandson, Victor G. Witherspoon II, granddaughter, Victoria Nicole Witherspoon, great-grandson, Camaran, Jr., sister, Maxcine Strickland, brother, Allen Hirsch, sisters in love, Sharon Norwood Burwell, Edith Heard and Mary Reid, and a host of nephews, cousins, dear friends and "adopted" children in Christ. On March 9, 2016, God said, "Well done, good and faithful servant" and called Cozetta home to rest.
