Obituary

Daisy Humphrey Furbush was born April 28, 1939 to the late Roy W. Humphrey and Estella Roberson Humphrey of Saint Pauls, North Carolina. She peacefully transitioned to meet her Lord and Savior and join the elders she passionately sought to know on October 4, 2019. Daisy graduated from Saint Pauls High School in May 1957. Later that year she moved to Washington, DC.

Daisy accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in Saint Pauls, North Carolina. She developed her love of singing as a member of the gospel choir. Over the years Daisy continued her devotion to Christian service as a member of Salem Church and Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She eventually became a devout member of Laurel Baptist Church faithfully singing and serving as a hostess for Wednesday night services until her health declined.

While living in DC, Daisy pursued a career with the federal government beginning at the Department of Health Education and Welfare from 1963-1973; next she worked at the Treasury Department from 973-1978, and finally she became an Equal Opportunity Specialist for the U. S. Department of Labor until her retirement in 1994.

After retirement she accepted her divine purpose spending endless years painstakingly researching Humphrey family genealogy. This pursuit culminated in the publication of an initial manuscript entitled "The Legacy of Martin Humphrey (The legacy of a Gifted and Industrious Man)" in 2015. Daisy spread her passion and knowledge of the family as the official historian and an avid organizer of family reunions. She was a member of the Charlotte Chapter of the African American Historical and Genealogical Society Inc.

Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, La Senia Pope and brother, John Oliver Humphrey.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory three sons:  Rodney L. Knight, of Winston Salem, N.C., Andre E. Knight of Charlotte, N.C.  and Gregory L. Knight (Sandra) of Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren: Andre M. Knight, Kalea J Knight, Tony Young, Talia L, Ware, Steven Ware, Jessica E. Ware (Khatiera), Sarah Gonzales (Tom), Mitra Ejmali (Jason), and Daniel Ejmali; 13 great grandchildren, her three siblings, James W. Humphrey of Glenarden, MD, Walter L. Humphrey of Lumberton, N.C., Emma H. Franklin (Charles) of North Brentwood, MD; one sister in law, Mary W. Humphrey of Suitland, MD and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Daisy ignited the flame of genealogical research in her protégé, Desi L. Campbell.
