Darryl Edward Leach was born in Rowland, NC on January 27, 1955. He was the son of the late Ralph Damon Leah and Gladys Inman Leach. His family relocated to Charlotte in 1961 where he grew up in the Historic Brooklyn neighborhood and attended Myers Park Street Elementary.
Darryl moved to Clanton Park, where he attended Sedgefield Middle School. During his youth he enjoyed playing basketball, football, tennis, and swimming. He was well known for excelling in sports. H e took pride in being a lifeguard at Sandhurst Apartments and several other Park & Recreation swimming pools.
After graduating from Olympic High School in 1973, he joined the United States Army from 1974-1977 and was Honorably discharged. He later received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Comm unication from Johnson C. Smith University where he also pledged Alphi Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He worked several years in Charlotte M ecklenburg Schools as a substitute teacher as well as coached track and football. He later became a Charlotte Firefighter form 1 9 84-1994.
Darryl leaves to cherish his memory his five children, Yolanda Campbell, Davin Dooley, Darryl Damon Leach, Shaylita Leach, and Desmon Leach; one sister J oyce Din dyal (Winston) , and seven beautiful grandchildren DeMicheal, Ebony, Samyah, Desmon Jordan, Eu'Seri, Kamyah, and Kendall.
