Obituary

David Roscoe Hopper, 78 of Charlotte, departed his life on April 7, 2020 at his residence.  He was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina on November 19, 1941 to the late Colsson Monroe Hopper and Bessie Juanita Hopper. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by siblings, Gladys Hopper, Doretha Hopper, Geneva Hopper, Barbara Hopper, Carolyn Hopper, Mildred Moony and Johnny Hopper.

David was educated in Henderson County, NC schools where he graduated from Ninth Avenue High School.  After high school, he joined the United States Army where he served two years in Germany.  After receiving an honorable discharge, he continued to serve our country for over 10 years as an active duty member of the Army National Guard.  We are grateful for his service to our country.

He graduated from Asheville-Buncombe Technical College with a degree in Calculus.  David became a skilled welder and retired from this profession.  As a man of faith, he attended Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte for years where he served as an usher.

David married his former wife Vida and they had two children, Darrin and Sherry.  David was a wonderful father.  When Sherry was a little girl, He would buy her comic books.  She enjoyed them so much.  Sherry remembers David throwing her up in the air and catching her.  They had fun.  Sometimes David would do her hair for school.  He did a Great job.  David showed his love in so many ways.  If she needed someone to talk to, David listened and gave good advice.  He was a wonderful father and friend to Sherry all her life.  He will be missed.  He loved all his children, Darrin, Sherry and Sandy.

David could fix things too.  Before Sherry married, if David knew something needed to be fixed around her house, David would say "You don't have to pay nobody to fix that.  I can fix it."  And he did.  David kept up on all current events.  It seemed that you could talk with him about almost any subject and he would know something about it.  He was an avid reader.  He enjoyed Thanksgiving dinners with the family; 2019 was the last Thanksgiving with David.  With joy and love, he will be remembered by family and friends.

David is survived by three children, Darrin Hopper, Sherry Ross, and Sandy Taylor; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Jasper Hopper and Gertrude Hopper; and a host of other relatives and friends.
