Mr. David Anthony Williams transitioned peacefully, Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 73 years old. David was born January 8, 1947 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Marilyn (Hogan) Williams-Wilson and the late David James Williams, Jr. He departed this life at Novant-Presbyterian-Main, Charlotte, North Carolina.
After serving in the United States Army, he worked as a Certified Production Welder/Inspector at Ken Work Trucking, Renton, Washington and worked as a Certified Production Welder/Truck Driver for Hodge Boiler Works, East Boston, MA. before retiring from Charlotte Area Transit (CATS) as a City Bus Driver.
David attended Worcester Vocational and Tech High School. He attended Western Pacific Truck Driving School, and Bates Technical College, Tacoma, Washington.
He enjoyed perfecting his wood crafting skills by designing and building wood cabinets and other items. He enjoyed shopping for different work tools, woodcutting equipment and machinery. A man of many words and stories. David especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends sharing words of encouragement and advice. David was a stranger to no one and a friend to everyone. He was dedicated to his family and friends and will be forever loved and missed.
He leaves fond memories and legacies to be cherished: wife, Liz Thompkins-Williams; one daughter, Veronica Williams (3 granddaughters), Tacoma, Washington; mother, Marilyn (Hogan) Williams-Wilson, Worcester, Massachusetts; two sisters, Wendy Perkins and husband, Butch, Worcester, Massachusetts; Vanessa Wilson, Clinton, Iowa; three brothers, Gregory Williams and wife, Yon Kim, Fayetteville, North Carolina; Bernie Williams, Worcester, Massachusetts; Michael Williams and wife, Susan, Worcester, Massachusetts; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many special life-long friends.
Besides his late father, David James Williams, Jr., and late stepfather, Raymond Wilson, Sr., David was preceded in death by four brothers — Corporal Ronald Williams, Randolph Williams, Dr. Alvin K. Williams, and Raymond Wilson Jr., all of Worcester, Massachusetts.
A private Memorial Service for family and close friends will be held Friday, June 12, 2020, 11:30a.m., at Grier Funeral Service – Memorial Chapel, 115 John McCarroll Avenue, Charlotte, North Carolina 28216.
