Mrs. Delores McCullough Maxwell, daughter of the late Samuel and Sadie McCullough, was born November 26, 1940. She transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home on April 24, 2015 at Saturn Rehabilitation Center in Charlotte, NC. She received her nursing degree from Provident School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland. Afterwards, she came back to Charlotte to work at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. To further her education, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Queens College and her Master's Degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Her career consisted of working as a Nursing Instructor at Central Piedmont Community College and Carolinas Medical Center, where she retired. Mrs. Maxwell was an active member of First United Presbyterian Church where she was involved with the Peter's Place Ministry and was a member of the Hannah Circle. Due to her love of education, she also volunteered as a tutor at First United Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Maxwell was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Lavern McCullough Fox, Thelma McCullough, and Anita McCullough, and one brother, Charles McCullough. Left to cherish her memories are her husband, John C. Maxwell, Sr.; two sons, John C. Maxwell, Jr. (Sunshine) and Derrick Maxwell, Sr. (Michelle); five grandchildren, Courtney, John III, Kia, Derrick Jr. and Sean; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Johnson, Joanne Stone (Harry), Lorraine Brown (Rev. Jack Brown), and Cynthia Metoyer; three brothers, William McCullough (Jean), Sam McCullough (Myra) and Johnny McCullough (Ramona); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral service for Mrs. Maxwell will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at First United Presbyterian Church. Family visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
