Derrick Marcellus Maxwell, Jr., 23, transcended this earthly life on July 8, 2022.   He was born August 31, 1998 in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The first born son of Derrick Marcellus and Elenore R. Maxwell came into this world with great purpose and on a mission.

A high School graduate of North Mecklenburg, home of the Vikings, where he exhibited his God given basketball skills for 4 years on the Varsity Basketball team.  A young man of great physical stature, yet the mindset of a meek silent warrior.  After high school, he headed to Livingstone College, Home of the Blue Bear where he excelled in academics with a GPA 3.914/4.0 (Summa Cum Laude), Bachelor of Science, Computer Information Systems, with a Minor in Mathematics.  His leadership organizations included Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity - Gamma Delta Chapter, Student Government Association - Executive Treasurer/Business Manager, Alpha Kappa Ma Honor Society - Alpha Psi Chapter's, Livingstone College Alumni Association, NAACP Sector 5, American Chemical Society, TRiO Student Support Services, Club safety Health Assessment Research for Prevention, LEAD Kappa Fellow, Livingstone College Presidential Scholar Awardee, Gamma Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi - Brother of the Year Award, Lab Assistant of the Year, 1st Place in Livingston College Presidential Quiz Bowl, Black Car Certification of Academic Performance, North and South Carolina Health & Life Insurance Certification.

As member of First United Presbyterian Church, his walk with God went beyond the four walls of the church.  The passion that embodied Derrick to care and help people with all their hurts was amazing to observe.  We thank God for the years He loaned us "DJ", years of leaning, loving, teaching, living and ministering to people.  His love for cooking started while watching his father cater and cook family meals.  The joys of family dinner, movies, beach trips and basketball.

Though he is gone, he is not forgotten and the vision will continue to go forth!

Derrick is survived by his parents, Derrick and Elenore (Michelle) Maxwell, brother Sean Graham Maxwell, sister Courtney Nelson and a host of family and friends.
