Desiree Campbell-Guest, affectionately known as "Dez" or "MeMa", was born June 25, 1967, the middle child and only daughter of the late Dorothy Mae Spry and the late George Campbell, Sr. Our mother grew up in a close-knit family house that included her two siblings, as well as her cousins.
Desiree's strength and leadership skills developed early in life as she often acted in the maternal role to her siblings and cousins. She was direct and to the point, not one for foolishness, but underneath that strong exterior was a soft heart of gold. Throughout her life, she mentored many in her family and was often the "go-to" person when things needed to get done. We are particularly going to miss her culinary skills as she taught so many of us how to cook.
Desiree was as true native New Yorker. She was born in East Meadow at Nassau County Medical Center, graduated from Hempstead High School, and spent most of her life there. On October 5, 1990, she married James Guest; from this union three children were born, Shaneekwa, Asia and James.
Desiree gave us all a lesson of determination, strength, style and grace as she battled serious health issues for almost 20 years. She never allowed her illness to be an excuse for not moving forward in life. We always admired her fearlessness and determination; she was the smallest person but the strongest. Our mother worked hard and provided for her family and continued to work until her final hospitalization in November. We were truly blessed to have a real "Super Woman" as our mother.
On Wednesday, December 15, 2021, surrounded by her family, God released our mother from pain and gave her wings. We celebrate the gift that God gave us in her. Mourning Desiree's death include her husband, James Guest; her three children, Shaneekwa Guest, Asia Guest and James Guest, Jr.; her grandchildren, Chaniya Guest, Cheyenne Guest, Jade Johnson and Aubrey Jones; siblings, Timothy Campbell Sr. and George Campbell; cousins, Raquel Spry-Dacres, Munta Spry, Natalie Nelson, Ursula Knott, Kenneth Boyd, Deon Boyd, Rita Boyd and Yolanda Jones; aunt, Christine Boyd; two childhood best friends, Sandra Johnson and Colesa Keels. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
In addition to her parents, Desiree was predeceased by her cousin, Tyrone Boyd.
