Dolores G. Naggles Atkins, the only child of the late Mr. Elijah Naggles and Mrs. Ruth Foulks Naggles, was born November 22, 1936 in Jamaica, New York. Dolores made her transition on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at home by her daughters.
At an early age, Dolores was trained as a classical pianist. After graduating from John Adams High School (Ozone Park, NY) where she became fluent in German, she began her career with the Federal Government and retired after 42 years. After retirement, she moved to Charlotte, NC.
Dolores was the Minister of Music for several years at Bethany Baptist Church, (Jamaica, NY), playing both the foot pedal organ and the piano. She was also the Choir Director of several choirs during her tenure.
In June 1958, Dolores, married Robert J. Atkins. To this union, two daughters were born, Robbin and Regina. She was preceded in death by her husband and an 'adopted sister,' Mrs. Lillie Bell Carter (Batesburg, SC).
Dolores was an advocate for higher learning and encouraged those around her to further their education. She went back to school and obtained her Bachelors of Arts degree from City University of New York (York College, Jamaica, NY), while working full time, and raising her daughters as her husband served and retired after 20 years of service in the United States Army.
She loved animals, singing, flowers and gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, event planning and traveling. Dolores was a strong and proud woman with an extraordinary business acumen in real estate and other ventures.
Dolores' courageous spirit to live was evident to all she came in contact with as she never lost her faith or her sense of humor. Her radiant smile well never be forgotten.
Those left to cherish her fond memories are her devoted daughters, Robbin and Regina Atkins (Charlotte, NC); her fur babies, Graeby and Anjanette; first cousin, Mr. James Naggles (Richmond, VA); 'adopted son,' Mr. Robert Houser (Jamaica, NY); 'adopted sister,' Mrs. Joan Black (jamaica, NY); 'adopted brother,' Dr. Abdul Hakeem; a special group caregivers, Mrs. Mary King, Ms. Valerie Heyward, Mrs. Regina Brunt, Ms. Shanica Alexander, Mr. Douglas Purvis and Mr. Andwele Nelson; past caregivers; three sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law; a devoted family friend, Ms. Tonia Rogers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
