Donald Lucell Hanson, 54 of Blue Springs, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, April 14, 2022.

Don was born on June 1, 1967, to Katie Hanson Weaver and Moses Hanson in Charlotte, NC.  Don grew up in a tight-knit, loving household with his mother and 4 siblings.  In 1981 his mother packed up the family and moved to Somerset Kentucky where his big brother Lewis was in high school at Pulaski County High School.  Don attended Pulaski County High School where he and brothers, Lewis and Reggie stood out as a student-athletes.  After graduating from Pulaski in 1985 and went on to play basketball for Georgetown College in Georgetown Kentucky.

Following his stent at Georgetown Don joined the United States Air Force where he served in Airfield Management for 20 years. (1995-2015). Don met and married Amy Hanson.  They loved: traveling, movies, jazz music, good food and comedy clubs.  They were married for 10 years until Don's passing.  In 2015, Don retired from the Air Force and spent his years of retirement attending church, fishing, grilling, watching and following with much frustration, the North Carolina Tarheel basketball team, playing with his grandson, Phoenix, and most of all, enjoying life by being the witty, playful, so full of joy person/spirit we all loved and cherished.  He was also known, as Amy called him, the dog whisperer.  Don could see a dog anywhere and have full blown conversation with the dog.  He especially loved our dogs, Teddy, Dakota and Max.  He loved all animals and always said he wanted to come back as a bird. An eagle.

Don was preceded in death by the mother of his eldest children, Sandra Lee Hanson, and his father, Moses Hanson.

He is survived by his mother, Katie Hanson Weaver; his devoted wife, Amy Hanson; children, Kimberly Turner, Charles and Christopher Ashley, Leah Musa, Lucell Hanson, Morgan and Marquette Wilhite; siblings, Rodell and Ireathe Calloway, Lewis and Reginald Hanson; grandchildren, Lauren, Jada, Jakee Cheyenne, Neela, Chris, Kaden, Kobe, Zoe, Kyler, and Phoenix and many other relatives and friends who loved him.
