Obituary

Mr. Donald Edward Slaughter, 65, of Concord, NC, departed this life at Cabarrus Hospital.

Donald Edward Slaughter, affectionately known as Don, was born on March 15, 1960, to Lovie and Alphonso Slaughter, in Long Branch, New Jersey. He grew up in Lakewood, New Jersey. As the second of four children, Don was raised in a loving family environment that nurtured his vibrant spirit and musical talents.

From a young age, Don's love for music was evident. He was a talented drummer, beginning his musical journey in church as a boy and later showcasing his skills in his high school band. An avid music lover, Don also had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing all genres of music. His passion for running was equally notable; he was a dedicated long-distance runner and served as captain of his high school track team.

Don dreamed of becoming a famous drummer, and his ambition took him to Los Angeles to pursue that goal. Unfortunately, a hand injury thwarted those plans, but his resilient spirit remained undiminished. Don loved his family deeply and was a proud, caring big brother. He settled into a life of simplicity, working at FedEx, and finding joy in everyday moments.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lovie Slaughter; father, Alphonso Slaughter; and sister, Debra Slaughter.

Don leaves behind his loving siblings: his sister, Linda Slaughter Moore (Stephen Moore); his brother, Apostle LynDarrin Slaughter (Phyllis Bost Slaughter); his son, Donald Slaughter Jr. (Summer); his two granddaughters, Sasha and Sierra Slaughter; his nephews, Eric Slaughter and Geraldo Ball; his niece, Courtney Baker (Thaddeus Baker); add on sister, Robbin Johnson; and his great-nephews, Eric Lewis, Micah Slaughter, Preston Baker, and Parker Baker. He will be dearly missed for his kindness, laughter, and presence.

His life was a testament to love, family, friendships, and the pursuit of dreams. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.

Rest in peace, Don.
