Obituary

On Saturday, July 23, 2022, Doreatha Lucille Reed Deshields, loving mother of four children, passed away at the age of 102.

Doreatha was born on January 6, 1920, in Cheraw, South Carolina to William Frank Spencer Reed and Estella Davis Reed.  She is the ninth of eleven children who have all preceded her in death.  On June 6, 1927, she married Walter Deshields.  They raised two sons, Walter James and Michael Anthony, and two daughters, Thelma Louise and Beverly Delores.

During World War II, Walter was drafted in the military while she was pregnant with their third child (Beverly), however this provided the opportunity for Doreatha to travel the world.  The family lived four years in France, three years in Germany, and on many military bases throughout the United States.  Thus she became the career military wife and homemaker and mother to her children.

Her favorite room in the house was the kitchen.  She loved to cook and feed anyone who came to visit.  She was an excellent seamstress and would sew without a McCalls pattern.  She had a special passion for painting too.  In 1962, after studying the Bible for six months, she made a very important decision to dedicate and become baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at an international convention in Munich, Germany.

Doreatha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, two children, Walter James and Thelma Louise, and one grandson, Brent.  She is survived by two children, Beverly King and Michael Deshields (Gail); eleven grandchildren, Kelly, Greg, Sidney, Cheryl, Brad, Leslie, Aaron, Lendel, Aislynn, Tsevana, Aurielle; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
