Dorothy Mae Jamison, 95, of Bluefield, WV peacefully entered her eternal rest on October 9, 2023, at her family residence in Charlotte, NC. She was born on May 5, 1928 in Algoma, WV to the late James and Virginia Dye.
She was educated in McDowell and Mercer County Schools. She graduated from Genoa High School. She was a member of the Genoa-Park Central Reunion Committee for many years. She attended Bluefield State College.
She was a member and served at Mount Olive Baptist Church for several years. She later became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Adult Choir and served on the Usher Board for many years until she became ill. She served on several auxiliaries and boards in the Bluefield community. She was a member of the Eastern Star/ Elks Lodge.
She worked as a teacher's aide at Stinson and Wade Elementary Schools. She also worked with children and young adults with special needs for many years, which was very rewarding for her. She later became the Housing Manager at Tiffany Manor through the Bluefield Housing Authority.
She was very well-known in the community and was loved and respected by her friends, former students, and tenants. She loved all children, and children loved her. She was fun-loving and had a great sense of humor. She always had a funny and interesting story to tell. She was very friendly and would "strike up a conversation" with anybody as if they were old friends.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, and shopping. She especially had an abundance of clothing, shoes, church hats and purses. She was always ready to go on a trip. She didn't drive and never had a driver's license, but she was great at reading maps and navigating the driver (before GPS). She was a good cook and was known for the great yeast rolls and delicious cakes she made. Even after her children left home, she continued to cook big meals to share with others.
She was thoughtful and compassionate and would go above and beyond to help anybody. She always wanted to be a blessing to others. Her greatest accomplishments were being a devoted wife for over 60 years and a loving mother and grandmother to her many children and grandchildren. She worked hard and sacrificed much to take care of her family. She was a woman of great faith and trusted God until the end. She loved to sing and was singing her favorite gospel hymns and clapping her hands up until her last days. Throughout her lifetime, she touched many lives in a positive way and left a memorable impression. Her life was full of purpose. And it was not lived in vain. She fought the good fight of faith and won.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her late husband, Charlie Jamison, her son, Mark Jamison; five brothers: James, William, Edward, Buster, and Donald Dye and two sisters: Elaine Henderson and Helen Brown.
She is survived by her sister, Verona Dye of Bluefield, WV; three daughters: Barbara Samuels, of New Castle, Delaware, Vicki (John) Haynes of Charlotte, NC and Tina Robinson of Philadelphia, PA, and seven sons: Charles (Rhonda) Jamison and Darryl Jamison of Bluefield, WV; James (Brenda) Jamison of Dallas, TX; Michael Jamison of Columbia, SC; Larry Jamison of Lexington, NC; William Keith Jamison of Denver, CO; and Christopher (Susan) Jamison of Seattle, WA; 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of special nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
