Mrs. Dorothy ("Dot") Rene Sanders Tippens was born on April 24, 1944, to the late Viola Smith Sanders and the late Edwin Moore Sanders in Smithfield, NC. She departed this earthly life on December 13, 2021, at Atrium Health Main in Charlotte, N.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Ervin, Charles, Joseph and William Sanders; her sisters: Pearlie Harris and Inez Neal; and her son-in-law: Roosevelt Benjamin Chisolm, II.
Dot was educated in the Johnston County Public School System, where she graduated high school. She accepted Christ at an early age and learned to love the Lord at Avery Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Smithfield, NC. She continued to worship Christ thoughout her life.
Dot was joined in Holy Matrimony to Ernest Tippens in 1967, and they were blessed with two children: Daphne ("Dione") and Andre. She worked for over 30 years in the manufacturing industry, at Plushbottom, Baxter International Inc. and then The Cato Corporation. She retired in 2005.
She was a peaceful person who cherished spending time with her family and eating sweets. The family, in turn, loved her and her cooking during the holidays. She was a loving wife and mother and doting grandmother.
Dot leaves to cherish her memory her dear husband of 54 years, Ernest Tippens, of the home; one daughter: Daphne Chisolm, of the home; one son: Andre Tippens, of Charlotte, NC; one brother: Robert Lee (Yvonne) Sanders, of Raleigh, NC; two sisters: Ellistine Williamson, of Petersburg, VA and Emma Sanders (Eugene) Lucas, of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren: Maximilian and Lauren Chisolm, of the home; brother in-law: Clewesto Smith, of Arlington, TX; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Jean Sanders, of Raleigh, NC, Linda Shed, of Cedar Hill, TX and Judy Tippens, Lavern Tippens, and Carolyn Tippens, all of Fort Worth, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be private.
