Obituary

Douglas A. Colbert was born on February 24, 1945 to Doc and Jewell Colbert in Madison County, Hull Georgia.  He was the seventh of twelve children.

Doug learned about Jesus from his parents and was baptized at an early age. He graduated from Southside High School where he was an All-Star Basketball player.

Doug enjoyed all sports including baseball, basketball, and football. If you didn't see him on the field, you would definitely hear him in the crowd. He was a natural athlete with a special niche for baseball. His athleticism was so awesome that he was encouraged to try out for the Senators Baseball team in Washington, DC.

Doug was married to his Queen Rosa, affectionately called "Rosie", the love of his life for fifty-eight beautiful years. They were blessed with two sons Victor and Stanley. He was proud to be a father.

Doug had several jobs, but working as an Air Condition HVAC at the Nation's Capital in D.C. was the highlight of his working career and that's because he was our BIG MAN on the Hill. Whenever his family would come for a visit, he would take them sightseeing if they wanted to go or not! Dough also enjoyed his last job as a salesman at Woodbridge Automobile Sales & Auction with his brother "Mick." The stories these two created and shared were priceless.

Everyone knew Doug as a people person. He was very hospitable and enjoyed having company. Hungry or not, Doug was always ready to feed you! I'm sure at some point you've enjoyed his potato salad and BBQ! He was definitely the BBQ King in MD as his brother David held the BBQ King rank in GA. At Thanksgiving, he was busy taking orders for Fried Turkeys. He put so much love into cooking. Besides sports and the kitchen, he also enjoyed setting up the family vacations in Myrtle Beach and being our 1st Family Reunion President in Maryland. (He loved giving orders)

Doug has had several health challenges these past few years. He truly wanted to attend our 2022 family reunion, but his health wouldn't allow him to. However, our God is good! The family reunion was held in NC and a lot of his family from GA, MD, and NC was blessed to go spend some time with him. They brought the reunion to him "Just One More Time", which was our theme this year.

He has left us with so many wonderful memories and those good times will never be forgotten. Doug leaves his loving wife Rosa of 58 years, two sons Victor Colbert (Sheila), and Stanley Colbert; four amazing grandchildren Ashlee, Victor II, Raven, and Braelynn; siblings Will Colbert, Linda Colbert, and Timothy Colbert (Shelia) all from GA who were GA who were also his dear friends; sister-in-laws Ora Lee Colbert, Lillie Colbert and Linda Jones (Thomas); brother-in-laws, Jessie Ellis and Clifford Risby (Sadie); too many nieces/nephews to count. He was preceded in death by his siblings Thomas, Anita (George), Russell (Betty), Wallace(Mary), David, Yvonee (Robert), Larry, Phyllis, and Carol Ann who are all excited to welcome him home.
