Obituary

Mr. Earnest Mack Haywood, 76, of Charlotte NC departed this life on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Aldersgate Hospice.

Earnest Mack Haywood's voyage started on October 16, 1947, to Henry Gibbs and Vergie Louise Haywood.  He attended Grace Love Elementary School and Mary Bethune Elementary School.  He graduated from Rowan High School in 1966, all located in Hattiesburg, MS.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Earnest joined the United States Army, 4th Battalion, 30th Infantry, 4th Army, 9th Infantry Division where he fought in the Vietnam War.  After departing the service in August of 1966, he began working at Hercules. He worked at Hercules until 1975. In 1975, Earnest relocated to Wichita, KS to live with his sister Jerrie. While in Wichita, Earnest worked at Safeway Meat Packing Company.
Earnest's voyage ended on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate in Charlotte, NC.  Earnest was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Gibbs and Vergie Haywood; his sister, Jerrie Sherman Albert; his brother, Charles R. (Jimmy) Smith, and his great-granddaughter, Kymmori Joy.
Earnest is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Charlene Haywood; one beautiful daughter, Kimberly Montique Amos (Greg); one grandson, Gabriel Hakeem Jones; one granddaughter, Kyana Amos-Walley (James); four great-granddaughters, Gabryn Jones and Jayc Jones of Dallas, TX, Kymistri Amos-Walley and Kyann Amos-Walley of Hattiesburg, MS; three stepdaughters, Letonia Drinker, Pam Smith and Tera Berry, all of Hattiesburg, MS; one stepson, Eric Jones of Hattiesburg, MS; step-grandchildren, Charles Drinker, Lakan Powell, Kedesmond Jones, LaCeleste Jones, Jaleesa Jones, Dearcos Jones, Eric Jones, Jr., India Jones, Mia Jones, Taneshia Quinn, Kazardra Grant, and Chris Berry; fifteen step great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Willie Albert, Jr. of Concord, NC and Willie Naylor (Paulette) of Hattiesburg, MS; sisters-in-law, Lizzie Hinton, Brenda Hollingsworth and Angela Ware, all of Hattiesburg, MS; and one bonus daughter, Kimberly Pearson.  He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that he loved.
