Mrs. Eddina Nash, 98, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Presbyterian Main Hospice.
She was a quiet woman of excellence – not flashy or boisterous – whose relaxed manner helped to calm any situation where a peaceful demeanor was needed. While she may not have publicly spoken volumes, you certainly knew her position on any topic of discussion in which she participated. EDDINA PERRY NASH was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 29, 1924 to Grant and Dreddie Perry and closed her eyes in sleep on June 3, 2023 in Novant Presbyterian Hospital – Main.
During her early years, she and her siblings, Christine Dean and Curtis Starkes, had great times together. Among other things, they attended the local schools and completed their chores on the farm; however, Dina did not visualize her future from an agricultural perspective. As she grew up at home, she embraced the qualities that would characterize her style and personality for years – her pride in her home and her loyalty and faithfulness to her family.
She married her sweetheart, James Albert Nash, in York, S.C. They lived in Charlotte for a time but eventually moved to Evanston, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) where they lived for 37 years. They lived quiet lives there while maintaining their home and pursuing their interests. During her years in Evanston, Dina was a mailroom tech for Stanley Rate & Data – a company that printed books and magazines.
Dina took great pride in those things that people remember most about her. Her quiet manner was enhanced by her attractive appearance. She was both well-kept and well-dressed and "stood out" every time she "stepped out". She loved to cook – especially holiday cooking where she could entertain royally and "show off her stuff" with the menu. She loved all manner of flowers and tastefully adorned her home with plants. Most of all, she loved family – especially the visits, reunions, and quiet moments with them. She was honest and believable in her activities in life. She had great integrity, which she maintained at all cost. Her word was her bond.
Nash and Dina chose to return to Charlotte after retirement in 1987 and set up living quarters on Cardigan Avenue where they lived until their health failed them. Two years ago, Dina suffered a stroke which paralyzed her and forced her relocation to a local facility – White Oak Manor. Quite coincidently, she and Nash resided there together – since they both had health concerns that needed professional attention.
In February this year, Dina was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, James Nash. She is survived by immediate cousins: Willie Abel, Belle Abel, Olivia Faulkner, Sonya McGee, Mary Davis, Harriet Davis, Merlisa Autry, Michael Davis, plus a host of other relatives and friends.
