On Wednesday, March 02, 2016 at 7:10 a.m., God sent His holy angels to Huntersville Hospice and Palliative Care facility to bring Edward Garriett Jr. home to HIS open arms. He was born March 16, 1945 to the late Edward Garriett Sr. and Janie Bell Wylie Garriett in Chester, SC. He received his formal education at Finley High School in Chester. Ed as he was fondly called left Chester in 1962 for a better future. He was a lifelong chef-not only was cooking a way of feeding his family, but he loved the smiles everyone had on their face when they tasted his food. His favorite saying was, "I enjoy eating so I cook". He cooked food especially chicken for most people in Charlotte and sweet potato pies. After a career at Price's Chicken Coop of 42 years, Ed stated his own business; Garriett's Catering. He was sought out to prepare his delicious chicken and other dishes for many of the surrounding churches for events that they were having. He cooked for family, friends and anyone that came through the doors. He believed that a "full stomach is a happy person". He was not a stranger to anyone he met. Smiling was contagious to all around him. He never saw the cup half empty, but half full and always wondered how to fill it up to the top. Ed joined Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church and immediately became a Trustee. He joined United National Supreme Council, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite FreeMasons of the World in 1990, being initiated into King James Lodge #190, Charlotte, NC. As an active member of the organization, he joined several auxiliaries of the Order: Windell Lodge of Perfection, and Daniels royal Arch 14*, LaNouvelle Jerusalem 18* Chapter Knights of the Rose Croix, Wa'Set Consistory, Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret, Hajji Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and a member of Radiance Chapter #11 Order of Eastern Star, serving as their Worthy Patron in 1992. In 1997 he was elevated to a 33rd Deputy Inspector General. On March 21, 1991, Ed was joined in holy matrimony to Robbie Horton. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Elmore Garriett, a sister, Leola Garriett an former wife, Ruth Garriett. Cherishing his memories in addition to his loving wife Robbie, daughters, Dr. Victoria (Vickie) Garriett Lampkin (Terry) and Yolanda McClain McGee. Grandchildren were Ed's heart and he loved being the "Big Daddy and Paw Paw" to Braylon McGee, Stinson Lampkin, and Stachel Lampkin. He also leaves his sisters; Laurel Ellen Walker Brother-in-law Joseph Horton of Charlotte NC; and a host of other relatives and many, many friends.
