Elizabeth 'Smookie' Adams Dunlap, daughter of the late John Adams, Sr. and Sarah Stinson Adams, departed this life on November 30, 2022. She was born in Pineville, North Carolina on August 27, 1941. She was preceded in death by her son Brian Antoine Dunlap, brother John Adams, Jr., and sister Mary Ann Adams Freeman.

She was educated in the Mecklenburg County School System and graduated from Sterling High School in 1960. Elizabeth held down many jobs. She was a cafeteria manager for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, a cook for Ramada Inn, and a cook for the Mecklenburg County Senior Nutrition Program. She also sold Tupperware and Avon.

Elizabeth attended Big Pineville AME Zion Church. She was one of the first members of the kitchen ministry under the direction of the late Reverend Charles Reid. She loved balloons, butterflies, growing flowers, and her aquarium full of fish. She was known for her great sense of humor, cooking, and for speaking her mind. Most importantly, she cared for her family and friends. If ever anyone needed help or support, they could count on her to lend a helping hand or a stern voice of reasoning.

Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of: her children Anita Dunlap of Charlotte, NC and Rosalind Dunlap of Charlotte, NC; sister Sarah Harris of Lancaster, SC; brothers Willie Adams (Tenia) of Lancaster, SC, Morris Adams of Charlotte, NC, Robert Adams of Lancaster, SC, and Alfred Adams (Diane) of Charlotte, NC; her god-sister Gwendolyn Allen, god-children Rhonda Beatty, and god-grandchildren Bryan Beatty, Le'Andres Connelly, William Connelly, and Brian Hubert; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
