Obituary

Elizabeth McClain Nicholas, 85, of Charlotte, affectionately known as "Lib" was born to the Late Mable T. Gaither and Charles H. Kelly on November 5, 1935 in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The sun set on her life Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at her home.

Lib attended Charlotte Mecklenburg  Schools where she graduated from Second Ward Senior High School in 1954 (now known as Metro School). She joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in 1949 during her 73 years as a member she served on the Choir, President of the Usher Board  & Daisy Girl Scout Leader.

In 1956 she married the Late Bynom Nicholas, Jr. and to this union were two daughters.

In 1970 she worked for Charlotte Mecklenburg School System at Eastover Elementary for 34 years until her retirement in 2004.  She made history in the school system by being the first Teacher Assistant to work with the same teacher for 18 years.

This was a job that suited her, because of her love of children.  On any given Sunday you would find a child sitting with her during service.

She leaves to forever cherish her fond memories:  two daughters; Kim N. Porter-Lumpkin ( a loving son-in-love John "My Bud"), Burnadette N. Johnson; six grandchildren, Adrian Nicholas, Sr., Robert Porter, II (Elloree), Sarah Posey all of Charlotte, NC, Arian and Omar Lumpkin of Great Falls, SC; nine great-grands and one great-great-grand all of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Reginald Boyd, Sr. of Charlotte, NC; two sister-n-laws, Helen N. Griffin of Katy, TX, and C. "Tina" N. Evans (Michael) of Stafford, TX; one brother-in-law, Marvin Nicholas (Arita) of Houston, TX; a host of very loving nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins and friends.
