Ella "Mae" McLeod, affectionately called "Mae" 93 of Charlotte, transitioned from this life on Monday, February 7, 2022 at Atrium Health - Mercy.  She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 26, 1928 to the late Howard Lawrence and Francis Gordon Lawrence and sister Thelma Lucas (deceased).

Mae was raised and attended high school in Charlotte, North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her late husband, Henry McLeod who was a long-time employee of Farris Finishing Company.  Mae was the proud mother of 9 children.  She was a home maker and later became the matriarch of the Cherry Community and held a long-time position as a member of the Cherry Community Organization.  Mae was a faithful member of Myer's Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church of which she was honored as the "Senior Mother of the Year", she received a "Certificate of Appreciation" amongst other accolades.  Mae later became employed by Mini Cities Daycare.

Mae was a great mother and grandmother that was loved by everyone in her community.  "Mae" will be remembered by family members and friends in the Cherry and Brooklyn Communities, as a strong, self-sufficient, tell it like it is woman.  Everyone in the community knew who Ella Mae McLeod and her children were.  She was lively, genuine, authentic, and a joy to be around.  We will miss her infectious laughter and loving spirit.

She leaves to mourn; Daughter Hazeline Stanton (Marshall) of Boston, MA, Son Robert Lee Lawrence, daughter Francine McLeod, daughter Veronica McLeod, and daughter Curtina McLeod and stepdaughter Barbara Ann Gilmore, all of Charlotte, NC.  She also leaves her aunt Catherine Thomas, sister-in-law Marie Dickson, both of Charlotte, NC as well as host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
