Elsie White Davis, 94, was born on November 9, 1929, to the late Norman White and Alma Littlejohn. She gained her wings on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Elsie, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, was educated in the Mecklenburg County School System. She was the first member of several family members to attend the illustrious West Charlotte Senior High School at its original location on Beatties Ford Road. She was united in marriage with the love her life, James Albert Davis Sr, on September 1, 1946. They raised two devoted sons, James and Carlton, affectionately known to many as "Pete" and "Poe".
Elsie was a faithful and active member of Nazareth Primitive Baptist Church on Bancroft Street in Charlotte NC, until her health declined, and she was unable to attend regularly. She loved God and was dedicated to the work of the church by being an active member of the Mother Board, choir, and helping with other church auxiliaries.
Elsie worked in various nurseries and schools in the cafeteria, but she mostly devoted her time to her home. Elsie took pride in cooking great meals for her husband and family EVERY day and made sure everyone who came by was well fed and felt welcomed. And there was always someone stopping by to visit Elsie and James at their home on English Drive. They hosted countless number of cookouts, and fried fish in the wash pot, holiday parties where family and friends would gather, eat, listen to records, play a hand of spades, or playing Pokeno for pennies. Sometimes friends would come by to just sit for a spell. Elsie enjoyed these times the most and left lasting memories for everyone who passed through the doors of her home.
Elsie is survived by: her son Carlton Davis of Charlotte, NC, three grandchildren Demetrice Benton (Timothy Sr) of Charlotte, NC, Marius Davis (Patricia) of Columbia, MD, and Shane Jack (Tomond) of Decatur, GA; three great grandchildren Timothy Benton, Jr (Vincinta), Demetree Benton-Sullivan (Delvin), and Laila Davis, all of Charlotte, NC; five great great grandchildren Nevaeh, Timiya, TJ, Vyan, and Viniya; sister Thelma Williams, sister-in-law LeAnn White, goddaughter Jenesha Pharr, and a host of cousins, nieces, family and friends. She was proceeded in death by her faithful husband of 64 years, James Albert Davis, Sr.; son James "Pete" Albert Davis, Jr.; godson, Lester V. Grier, and siblings Marie Butler, Betty Williams Wiggins, Mary Ellen Broome, Clarence White, Clinton Kelley and Stinson Kelley
