Emma Mel Hurston Scott CHARLOTTE - Emma Mel Hurston Scott of Charlotte, NC entered eternal life on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. She was born on April 8, 1924 and educated in Anderson County, SC. Her spirit is carried on by her two children, Ruben (Gloria) Scott and Minister Benjamin Charles Scott, Sr.; seven grandchildren, Derrick, Donna, Cameron, Kelli, Maurice (Stephanie), Sara, Charles, Jr. (Terita); one surviving sibling, Mildred Terry of Seneca, SC; and an extended family of many great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins too numerous to list but not forgotten. Emma was well known for her sewing and her baking. She was especially known for her pound cakes. She has been the light in our lives, our idea for hope beyond hope, and she will always live in our hearts. Emma is reunited with her husband, Ulysses Scott, son, Tyrone Scott and two grandchildren, Maria and Garrison. She was predeceased by eight siblings. Friends may visit with Emma's family at her favorite place, Ebenezer Baptist Church on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 12 pm with the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations in Emma's memory be made to Carrington Place Rehabilitation and Living Center, 600 Fullwood Ln., Matthews, NC 28105.
