From: Cornell Caldwell:
"Deeply saddened by the loss of my big cousin, Eric Boyd. He was one of my heroes as an athlete and I only hoped I could be as good as him...in something. I know my cousins Corey and Jarrett share that sentiment. He was one of Independence High School's best basketball players and one of the best in the state of North Carolina.
Eric had the chance of going to Clemson in 1981 for football or several other schools for basketball, which was his best sport. He chose NC A&T, and went on to be an All-American MECA Player of the Year, and still holds many conference records. "Aggie Pride" literally started with the "Don Corbett/Eric Boyd Era." After college, he was drafted to the Golden State Warriors and later played a few years in Argentina after leaving Golden State.
Eric was quiet, reserved, and extremely humble given his ability and athletic accomplishments. He was taken away from us too soon due to heart complications. I regret not getting a chance to talk to him one last time. Hug your loved ones and tell them what they mean to you before it is too late."
