Mr. Eucephus Springs, son of the late Hazeline Lawrence and Eucephus "Fonzy" Springs, Jr., was born November 18, 1932, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He departed this life on Friday April 23, 2021 at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was 88.

Affectionately called "Bumpsy" by family and friends, Eucephus was the youngest of three sons. His brothers, Nathaniel C. Lawrence and Joe Avery "Jack" Lawrence, preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by three sons, Alan Williams, Diedor Williams, Michael Springs, and step-brother, A. Eugene Grier, Jr.

Bumpsy was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. He attended Morgan Street Elementary School and graduated from Second Ward High School in 1952. In high school, he was quarterback for the Second Ward Tigers football team and was a star player on the basketball team. Bumpsy was a proud member of the Second Ward High School Alumni Association. After high school, he attended Johnson C. Smith University.

A veteran of the United States Army, he serves during the Korean War. He entered the military in May 1953 where he earned the rank of Corporal. In November 1958, Eucephus was honorably discharged. After military service, he moved to Harlem, New York and lived there until the early 90's, when he returned to Charlotte and began working at Grier Funeral Service, Inc. as a funeral attendant. He worked there faithfully until retirement. Bumpsy was a quiet and kind, a very caring person. "To Know Him Was To Love Him."

Bumpsy loved sports. His favorite teams were the Kansas City Chiefs, the Charlotte Hornets, the Clemson Tigers, and the Kentucky Wildcats. His favorite car was Lexus, his favorite flower was the rose, favorite color was brown and his favorite song was "It's Something about the Name Jesus." His favorite aunt was Letha Lawrence Perry. He was especially fond of his grandparents, Bud and Maggie Lawrence.

As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bumpsy leaves precious memories with his loving wife, Edna Douglas Williams Springs, children, Alean William (Kasim), Judy Williams (Paul), Julius Williams (Verna), Theresa Williams, Sylvi Thompson (Donald) and Miles Williams, all of Charlotte, NC; on goddaughter; nieces and nephews (Gail, Phillis, Jackie, Rose-Marie, Lindia, Kay Francis, Nathaniel Jr. and Sabrina); twenty-two grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
