Eugene "Roger" Mackey, 76, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026 at his residence in Charlotte, NC.
Eugene “Roger” Mackey was born April 23, 1949, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He entered eternal rest on February 9, 2026, at the age of 76.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Eula Mae Mackey McCain; his stepfather, Ulysses McCain; his brother, Lee Earl Mackey; his sister, Linda Ruth Ann McCain Ervin; his nephew, Umi Jerricka “Rico” Ervin; and his aunts and uncles, Marie and Willie McCoy, Sarah Mackey Acker, Rosea Anthony, Reola Flowers, Sammie Duncan, John Duncan, Peter McClain and Betty McClain.
Roger lived a life defined by quiet strength, service, and devotion to family and community. He faithfully supported his mother in her business endeavors and was known for his willingness to work hard and help others. For over 15 years, he volunteered at Strawn Senior Apartments, opening the cafeteria each morning and assisting residents and staff. He was an avid bike rider and often helped elderly neighbors with yard work and daily tasks.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving brothers, Charles Edward Mackey and Jerry McCain; his aunts and uncles, Nomie Gaither, Joretha Simmons, Leo Jones Jr., Jeep McCain, and Bertha and Johnny Clark; a devoted group of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Roger’s life was a blessing, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
