Mr. Eugene Julius Stitt, 63 of Charlotte, departed this life on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Levine & Dickson, Huntersville. He was born June 18, 1958, to the late Eugene and Mable Bell Stitt in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Eugene was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, graduating from Grainger High School. He later received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Gene started his career at BASF. He later was employed with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as a Parent Advocate. After retiring, Gene continued this work independently. He continued to work as as advocate and mentor with the parents and students. Gene made it his mission to work with the police and their "Shop with a Cop" Christmas shopping for families in need. Gene's major mission in the community was helping students attend college. He took great pride in recruiting students to attend Livingstone College and obtaining scholarships.
Gene joined First United Presbyterian Church at an early age and served faithfully as an Elder, Trustee, Presbyterian Men's Council, and member of the Christian Nurture ministry team.
Gene was an active participant in several organizations. Gene was a member of Livingstone Alumni Association Charlotte Chapter, a life member of Livingstone College National Alumni Association, member of Unique Lodge #85-served as Master Mason of the Quarter, and Jr. Warden; a Nobel of Rameses Temple #51-served as Nobel Advisor of DOI, and Outer Guard; and a member of Holy Royal Arch.
Mr. Eugene J. Stitt leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Renea A. Stitt; a daughter, Candace Stitt of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Myra Angela Stitt, of Charlotte, NC; an aunt, Barbara Wooton of Nashville, Tennessee; a brother-in-law, Demetri (Angie) Allison; sister-in-laws, Angelia (David) Adams, and Denise Allison all of Charlotte, NC; goddaughter, Moriah Hill of Charlotte, NC; godsons, Jalen (Julia) Bell of Hampton, VA, Colin (Candace) Cunningham, Grant Cunningham, both of Charlotte, NC; and Austin Cunningham, of Washington, DC; cousins, Hubert Warren Bell, of Ypsilanti, MI, Lucille Oliphant of Detroit, MI, Christine Kibler of Capital Heights, MD, and Robert (Margaret) Evans of Charlotte, NC; and a host of other family, and many wonderful friends.
