Sunrise...

Eva Mae Bowman Barber was born July 6, 1940 in Anson County, NC.  She was the daughter of the late Sidney Bowman and Lucinda Margaret Allen.

A Life Well Spent...

Mrs. Barber attended Central Piedmont Community College where she earned an associates degree in Criminal Justice.  She then worked at the Mecklenburg County Probation Office.  She also worked as a Teacher Assistant at Lakeview Elementary School. She especially enjoyed working with children.  Later she worked in the Business Office of Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital until her retirement as supervisor in 2001.

Mrs. Barber was a very active and long time member of Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.  In fact, she was one of the trailblazers from the original GMSBC on 7th Street.  She was a member of the T.F. Fraylon Ministry, the Voices of Sinai where she sang soprano, the Young at Heart and The Pastor's Aid.

Mrs. Barber was very involved in her beloved Brookfield Community.  She was president of the neighborhood association and chairperson of the local Voting Precinct 41.  She worked tirelessly to make sure that members of her community were registered to vote.  Mecklenburg County Parks & Recreation renamed Hoskins Park in her honor, now called the Eva B. Barber Neighborhood Park.  Mrs. Barber enjoyed coordinating and hosting the National Night Out Fellowship in her community which was held to show appreciation to local law enforcement.

Sunset...

After a long and beautiful life, Mrs. Barber entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 9, 2020.  She was 79.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Essie Lee and Nathaniel Byrams; her brother, Calvin Bowman "June" and her husband, Osie Barber.

Left to cherish fond memories are one son, Manuel Van Everett Ayala; sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Bobby Meaders, all of Charlotte; devoted friends, Mamie Moore, Birdie Godlock, Juanita Suber, Catherine Kennedy, and Rev. Carl Clark; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
