Evangeline Agurs, 65, of Charlotte, NC, peacefully departed this earthly life on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Levine & Dickson Hospice - Aldersgate in Charlotte, NC.  She was surrounded by family and loved ones.

Evangeline "Van" Evans Agurs was born on October 14, 1960, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Mrs. Eva Lee Evans and the late Clarence Evans. Van grew up in a close-knit family where faith, love, and laughter were always at the center. She was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System and was a proud graduate of East Mecklenburg High School. She built a long career in customer service and hospitality, where her kindness, quick wit, and unmistakable honesty made a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Van was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was united in marriage to the late Willie Sam Agurs, with whom she shared many years of love and companionship. She was known for her "tell it like it is" attitude and her ability to keep it real, no matter the situation. She spoke her mind with love, humor, and truth, and people respected her for it. Her home was always filled with good food, lively conversation, and plenty of laughter.
Her greatest pride and joy was her son, the late Justin DeCarlo Evans, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Now reunited with him in eternal peace, her spirit lives on through her granddaughters, Kynadi Jordan and Kaisean Jordan, and her beloved nieces, Melesha Pough and Melena Pough, who brought her endless joy and pride.

Van was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Evans; husband, Willie Sam Agurs; brother, David Evans; and son, Justin DeCarlo Evans.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving mother Mrs. Eva Lee Evans; her brothers, Steve Evans and Henry Evans; her beloved granddaughters; devoted nieces, cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
