Obituary
Evelyn Lucille Mauney Herron departed this earthly life at her home on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. She was born August 7, 1927 in Kings Mountain, North Carolina to the late Grace Sifford Mauney and Jacob Ward Mauney. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Geneva Stowe; one brother, Ward Mauney; one son, James "Rudy" Watt; one grandson, Kevin Watt; and husband, Eddie Herron.
She joined Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church at an early age and was active throughout her adult life until age and failing health prevented her from doing so. Through the years, she served as Den Mother of the Cub Scouts, Church Elder, Moderator of the Women's Organization, member of the Senior Choir, and Secretary of the Senior Citizen's Organization. On Mother's Day, 2021, she was recognized by the church as the oldest living female member of Mt. Olive, at 93 years of age and honored with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
After her three sons graduated from high school, she worked for Lance Packing Company. The bulk of her work career, however, was spent with the United States Postal Service. She retired in 1994 after 24 years of dedicated service.
She loved to crochet, quilt and sew. She was a stylish dresser, made many of her own clothes, and always looked in style from the top of her head in beautiful hats to her feet in pretty shoes. She loved canning and cooking. Her fresh fried okra, string beans and corn medley, and homemade soup were always delicious. She was a generous and giving woman, always going out of her way to help others and to be a role model to family members, church members, and other people who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Graham Watt (Phyllis) of Cary, NC and Mel Watt (Eulada) of Charlotte, NC; one step-daughter, Cheryl Walker (Wayne) of Brooklyn, NY; one step-son, Eddie Andre Herron of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Leonard Mauney of Charlotte, NC; three grandsons, Wynton Watt of Charlotte, NC, Brian Watt (Daisy) of Oakland, CA, and Jason Watt (Sandra) of The Bronx, NY; six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Jessica, Jaden, Nicolas, Melina, and Sonia; three great-great grandchildren, Jayshon, Jayvon, and Kato; five nieces, Carrol Stowe, Doris Moore, Jean Humphrey, Patricia Mauney, and Bridget Kearns; three nephews, Leonard J. Mauney, Willis Stowe and Reginald Coefield Mauney; and a host of other relatives and friends.
