Mrs. Evelyn Johnson, 81, of Harrisburg, NC departed this life on April 27, 2023 at Atrium Cabarrus.

Evelyn Johnson was born on Saturday, December 20, 1941, to the late Mattie Mae Lemon and Jerry Fordham in Wando, South Carolina.  Being of the silent generation, she wasn't a woman of many words.  Evelyn had a way with facial expressions and silence that was immaculate.  From her own children down to her great-grandchildren, her face said what her mouth didn't; nevertheless, the love was felt.

Raised by a single mother and the eldest of five children, she was the epitome of Independent.  Now a graduate of Cainhoy High School, at a young age, she left the only home she'd ever known and headed to New York City.  There she married the late Ronald Johnson in November of 1964 and raised her four children.  She went on to attend Lehman College in the Bronx, NY and received her bachelor's degree in social work.  She then began a career with NYC Human Resource Administration as a case worker for years until her promotion to supervisor.  Evelyn retired from HRA in 2008 after 35 years of service.  She was an avid member of Bronx Christian Fellowship Church since 2001, following the teachers of Dr. Susan Johnson Cook.

Following retirement, Evelyn relocated to the suburbs of Harrisburg, NC with her children and grandchildren.  There she would enjoy her retired life surrounded by family.

Evelyn was called home on Thursday, April 27, 2023.  She leaves to honor her memory two children, Donna and Deedra; three siblings, Chauncey, Patricia and Maurice; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Ja'Quasia, Barry Jr., Davaughn and Jasmine, Decor, Majestik and Laila; six great-grandchildren, Giovanni, Zy'aire, Giannis, Gianna, Zielle and Gabriel; as well as a host of family and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Johnson; mother, Mattie Mae Lemon; daughter, Debra Johnson; brother, Russell Lemon and son, Freddie Johnson.
