Florence Cathey was born on March 21, 1930, to Eugene and Minnie Heath. She graduated from Second Ward High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. She later went on to become a licensed practical nurse. Florence dedicated many years to working at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Florence was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Spending time with her family, celebrating holidays, attending family cookouts, and going on vacation were some of her favorite ways to spend her time. Florence also loved to watch and feed animals.

Florence was the mother of four children, Shirley McCrorey (William B.), Veronica Cathey, Ronnie Cathey, and Gary Cathey. She was preceded in death by Veronica, Ronnie, and Gary.

Florence had four grandchildren, Williams A. McCrorey, Tonya Davis, Thomas Cathey, and Vanessa Oglesby. She had fifteen great-grandchildren, Sherabiah Oglesby, Demarcus Oglesby, Timothy Oglesby, Jr., Nicholas Givens, Quante Givens, Vandressa Givens-Williams, William E. McCrorey, Joshua McCrorey, Anthony McCrorey, Brandon Hunter, Rashad Davis, Reginal Davis, Vanessa Hines, Janessa Torrence, and Kyree Cathey-Hines. Florence was preceded in death by her granddaughter Vanessa Oglesby and her great-grandson, Timothy Oglesby, Jr.

Florence had twelve great-children, Vanessa A. Oglesby, Avory Torrance, Everett Connor, Jr., Danrian Price, Jallayah Douglas Givens, Joshua McCrory, Jr., Imani Washington, Malaysia Williams, Farontae Williams, Quanta Givens, Jr., Arian McCrorey, and Cameron Givens. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
