Obituary

Frances Louise Caldwell, 95, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at her residence in Zebulon, NC.

Frances Louise Caldwell, lovingly known as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, was born on August 27, 1930, in Westminster, South Carolina, in Oconee County, to the late Conrite Hallums, Sr. and Ola Hallums. Frances Louise peacefully transitioned to eternal life in Zebulon, NC, with her beloved daughter Dannetta by her side. In addition to her parents, Frances Louise was preceded in death by her four brothers: Ray Hallums, Columbus Hallums, Conrite Hallums, Jr., and James E. Hallums.

At an early age, Frances Louise ventured to Charlotte, NC, where she completed her education and proudly graduated from Second Ward High School. She later attended cosmetology school, an experience she enjoyed, though she ultimately discovered her passions lay elsewhere.

Frances Louise met and married the love of her life, Dan Caldwell, and together they shared a beautiful marriage that spanned over 70 years until his passing. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Dannetta and Sheena, whom she loved dearly. Frances Louise was the heart of her family—steadfast, nurturing, and full of unconditional love. After their marriage, Frances Louise and Dan became faithful members of New Emmanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, where they worshiped and grew in their faith together.

Frances Louise was a dedicated employee at Eckerd Drug Store Warehouse, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Frances Louise loved all sports, especially basketball and tennis. She had a gift for cooking and took great pride in preparing meals for her family, neighborhood children, and anyone who entered her home. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome, and her special Kool-Aid recipe was a favorite among many.

Even in her nineties, Frances Louise embraced life with a spirit of adventure and enjoyed traveling. It was one of her favorite things to do. Her last and most memorable trip was to visit her nephew, Desmond Smith, in Bloomfield, MI.

She will always be remembered for her kind heart, generous spirit, and the deep love she shared with her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughters, Dannetta Caldwell Dunn of Zebulon, NC, and Sheena Louise Hines of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, Cyril J. Baldeagle III and Destini S. Crawford; and her great-grandchildren, Alexandria Crawford, Azariah Abraham, Londynn Baldeagle, and S’Evan Brown; and her sister, Vera H. Smith of Bloomfield Hills, MI. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in all who knew and loved her.
