Fred Smith Jr., 81, of Harrisburg, NC, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.

Fred Smith, Jr. was born December 5, 1943, in Suffolk, Virginia to Fred Smith, Sr. and Justine Smith, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his son, Stacey Smith, and grandson, Sean Larry Dalton.

At an early age, Fred and his family moved to Manhattan, NY.  Later in life, Fred and his wife Barbara relocated to Harrisburg, NC and they lived there until his passing.

He was a member of City Church Northlake of Charlotte, NC and a former member of Mount Holiness Temple Church of Newark, NJ where he sang on the choir.

Fred was employed by the New York City Postal Service and later with the New York City Transit Authority where he retired after more than twenty years of service.  Fred was a man that liked to keep busy and was an avid reader of the New York City daily newspaper.

Fred is survived by his loving and devoted wife of forty years, Mrs. Barbara Ann Morgan Smith, who provided unwavering care during his extended illness of many years.  He is also survived by his daughters, Michelle Dalton of Salisbury, NC and Mosi Smith of Beckley, WV; his sons, Kenneth Smith of Euless, TX, and Issa Smith of Bronx, NY; two sisters, Rose Williams (Nathan) of Kentucky and Betty Smith of Bronx, NY; granddaughter, Jazmine Dalton of Salisbury, NC; grandsons, Tigris and    Smith of Bronx, NY; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Helen Barreto of Charlotte, NC and Mrs. Johnnie Mae Walker of Bronx, NY; brother-in-law, Mr. Michael Morgan of Augusta, GA; uncle, Julius C. Fields of New York, NY; aunt, Myrna Youmans of Hampton, SC; best friends of many years, Mr. William "Will" Whitfield and Mr. Charles Whitfield of Bronx, NY; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
