Mr. Garfield Evans, 82, of Charlotte, NC, departed this life on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Pineville Rehabilitation and Living Center.

God in His infinite wisdom, reached out His loving arms and carried Garfield Evans to His Heavenly home. Garfield peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Loving, devoted, kind, and strong willed, Garfield was a treasured husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  Garfield believed in working hard and taking care of his family.  He always provided love and support to any family member who needed a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. He loved life and the joy he received sharing it with everyone he met.  He was loved and adored and will be dearly missed by those he loved and those who loved him.

Garfield was born on December 6, 1941, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, to the late Lettie and Willie Evans.  He was raised up from a child in Monroe, North Carolina.  He graduated from Winchester High School, Class of 1960.  Garfield served in the US Air Force from 1960 to 1968.  He went on to complete his education at DeVry University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in Electronics. He also studied at Central Piedmont Community College in the field of Computer Technology.

Garfield was an entrepreneur and had a passion for hard work.  Upon completion of his formal education, Garfield was the owner of the first black owned electronics shop, Evans Electronics Repair Shop, in Monroe, NC.  He owned a TV repair shop in Charlotte, NC and also served as a Mecklenburg County Deputy Sheriff.  He was also the owner of Evans 24-hour Vending Services. Garfield retired from the USPS after more than 20 years.

Garfield believed in the love of God and joined First Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.  A faithful and dedicated member, he served on the Deacon Board as well as other auxiliaries where he could carry out the spirit of God's word.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Missy Evans and Joseph Starks; six sisters and three brothers.

Garfield leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 45 years, Etta Evans; surviving children, Jocq Evans, Tim Evans, Doris Vaughn (Donald), Regina Bradley (Tyrone); six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
