George Elliott Dorsey, Sr. of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Carolinas Medical Center. George was born September 18, 1947 in Manhattan, New York to the late Ernest Dorsey and Hattie Mae Needly-Dorsey of Bogalusa, Louisiana. He had one brother, the late Carlton Dorsey and a favorite cousin, the late Anthony Berty. George was especially fond of his in-laws, Olivia Young and the late Oliver Young.

George graduated from John Adams High School in Queens, New York and worked many years as a dedicated, loyal and hardworking employee, retiring from Channel 13 in New York and later retired from the Charlotte Observer in Charlotte, NC.

George leaves to cherish precious memories: his wife of 40 years, Bertha Dorsey; his 10 children: Jackie Perry-Ferguson (Don Juan Ferguson), Georgette Dorsey (Jefferson Wilder); Sharon Dorsey-Smith (late Robert Smith); Karen Dorsey (Bruce Kirby); John Sowell; Jewel Williston; George Dorsey, Jr.; Clarence Dorsey; Nicole Dorsey (Sterling Jones) and Pontina Dorsey-McCleave (Travis McCleave).  A loving grandfather to 25 grandchildren and a devoted great grandfather to 18 great grandchildren.  Affectionally known as their "Big Daddy".
