Mr. Gerald Bernard Black, 60 of Charlotte, departed this life on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Atrium Health - Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Gerald was born on February 17, 1962 in Charlotte, NC to the late Carl Matthew Black and Ruby Diane Monteith. He was preceded in death by his sister, Robin Denise Black.
Gerald attended the public schools of Charlotte, NC. He was very popular during his school years and participated in various sports in which he achieved numerous trophies for his favorite sport of baseball. During his years of employment, he worked for Deese's Roofing Co. for many years and was also employed at Rocky Charlie for over 8 years. He completed his employment history with Staff Zone as a General Laborer.
Growing up Gerald acquired the nicknames of "G. Black", "Black", and "Uncle Roachie Roach". He was always family oriented and loved to mingle with family and friends. He had a heart of gold and was generous to all. He played softball with the team True Soldiers for many years. His favorite hobbies were going to the lake with his family and friends and teaching his nieces and nephews how to fish. He would sit for hours and play chess with one of his best friends - James Houston. He also loved to cook on the grill and sit among family and friends. We would laugh at his corny jokes and he would look at us with a big smile on his face and asked the question, "What's so funny?" He also loved to spend quality time with his grandchildren. He was always excited to see them and take them to the park.
