Mrs. Gina Valdean Black, 63 of Charlotte, NC., departed this life on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Accordius Health at Mooresville.
Gina "Lady G" Black departed this earthly life, Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Accordius Health Center, Mooresville, NC. She made her grand entrance into the world late Friday, November 20, 1959, but was not officially recognized as being born until the following morning thus giving her two days to celebrate her birth as she proclaimed in Charlotte, NC to the late Ella Mance and Tom Tate.
Gina attended Mecklenburg County public schools and was a graduating member of the Myers Park High School Class of 1977. She diligently continued her education and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University in 2007. Throughout her career, she also took several courses at Central Piedmont Community College to further her professional development. Gina was employed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for 29 years before a well-deserved retirement in November of 2019.
She had a fun and loving spirit and was willing to do anything for anyone. She especially enjoyed singing, organizing events, and "dropping it like it's hot" whenever she had a chance. Rest assured that any event in need of assistance, whether it be seeking donations, volunteers, or just support, Gina was always ready and willing to jump in…and take charge if she could, but no matter the time or place there was always a chance that she was going to "drop it". Gina enjoyed being the life of the party and was known for her affinity for shuffles and slides. You could guarantee she'd be on the dance floor until the lights came on. To experience Gina in her element was surely a treat.
Gina was a loyal member of the Millennium Temple Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC. Gina and her late husband were a part of the core team of founding members of the church. There she served as a member of the Choir and the Kitchen Ministry. She was also very passionate about the recognition and appreciation of the "Senior Saints" of the church. This correlated to her involvement in the Meals on Wheels and Hot Lunch programs in addition to partnerships with several food banks and other ministries offering assistance throughout the City of Charlotte.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty-two years, William M. Black, Jr.; brothers, Bobby Dean Tate and Fred Davis; sister, Josephine Jones, and bonus daughter, Celeste Black Smith. Left to cherish precious memories are her son, William L. Black of Dallas, TX; three granddaughters, D'Essence Lee-Black, Ryleigh Simone Black, and Cali Ja'Cole DeShazor, all of Charlotte, NC; one great-grandson, Dakari Lee-Black of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Eddie Tate, Tom A. Tate, and Randy Tate (Japrena); sisters, Kathleen Rogers (Michael) and Carol Camp (James), all of Charlotte, NC; bonus daughters, Shawana Anderson, Latoya Anderson, and Shakira Anderson Carson (Jermaine), all of Charlotte, NC; six bonus grandsons, seven bonus granddaughters; seven bonus great-grandsons; seven bonus great-granddaughters; a host of nieces and nephews, and a long list of other relatives and friends.
