Gloria Enola Maxwell Kendrick, 93 of Charlotte, passed away on July 6, 2019 at Levine & Dickson-Hospice, Huntersville. She was born October 6, 1925, daughter of the late John Joseph Maxwell and Lucy Holt Maxwell.
A lifelong resident of Charlotte, Gloria grew up in the historic Brooklyn Community and attended Brooklyn Presbyterian Church which late merged with Seventh Street Presbyterian Church (now known as First United Presbyterian Church). She graduated from Second Ward High School. Gloria was a member of the Deborah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star during the 80's and 90's. She was highly regarded and dearly loved by family, friends and neighbors in her community.
At a time when it was rare for an African American woman to be an entrepreneur, Gloria owned her own business, the Hi-Fi Supper Club, which hosted many top acts of the 60's, such as the Impressions, Al Green and James Brown.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Harvey Kendrick; sister, Hilda Mae Long; and brothers, John Richard Maxwell and Julius Alonzo Maxwell.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, James Donald Kendrick and niece "Sister" Eleanor Long Rickett; grandson, Donald Lamont Kendrick (Julie) and granddaughter, Veronica Tatiana Kendrick Willis (Ryan); six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
