Obituary

Gracie Alexander Chambers, 70, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026 at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

Gracie Alexander Chambers was born on July 21, 1955, to the late George Alexander II and Betty Alexander in Charlotte, North Carolina. Gracie was a proud native of her hometown; rooted in family, community, and faith. She carried Charlotte in her heart everywhere she went, always finding comfort and connection in the people and places that shaped her.

Gracie received her education in the Mecklenburg County Public School System, attending J.T. Williams and graduated from West Charlotte High School. She had a gift for hard work and precision, dedicating over 20 years of her career as a machinist at Constar, where she was respected for her skill, reliability, and kindness. Her work ethic reflected the same care and attention she poured into every part of her life.

She found the love of her life in Melvin, with whom she shared over 40 beautiful years of marriage until his passing. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and warmth—a place everyone felt welcome. Gracie was also a proud military mom, full of love and gratitude for her sons’ dedication and service to the country.

Her greatest joys in life were being a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and dog mom. She was the heart of her family, known for her big smile, her love of cooking, her sense of humor, and her ability to make every person feel special. Her gentle spirit and strength touched all who knew her.

Gracie leaves to cherish her memory her siblings, Kenneth Alexander (Marilynn), Jackie Alexander, Shirley Alexander, and Joey Alexander (Cassandra); her beloved son, Tyshawn Alexander; and her cherished granddaughter, August Alexander. She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Chambers, and her brothers, George “Peewee” Alexander III and Larry Alexander.

Her legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in all whose lives she touched.
