Obituary

On December 4, 1990, Gregory Marc Busby, II was welcomed into the world as the beloved first-born child of the Reverend Gregory Marc Busby and Katrena Willoughby Busby. Born in Silver Spring, Maryland, young Gregory came to Charlotte, North Carolina when his father accepted the position of Pastor at First United Presbyterian Church. In the course of an abbreviated life which caused him to confront numerous medical challenges, Gregory fought bravely until our Lord determined that he had endured enough of life's battles and called him home to rest. Gregory Marc Busby II slipped away from Charlotte's Mercy Hospital on the morning of February 16, 2020.

Young Mr. Busby obtained his education from the public schools here in Charlotte. He attended both Oaklawn Elementary and Nathaniel Alexander for his elementary education. He completed requirements for his High School diploma finishing his formal education at Garinger High School (the "real OG") in June 2009. Following completion of the high school curriculum, Gregory also attended classes at Central Piedmont Community College as well as participating in the Goodwill Industries Job Readiness Program.

A young man of strong faith Gregory loved the Lord and the Church. As a child he confessed Christ at First United Presbyterian Church [FUPC] and was subsequently confirmed there. At FUPC, he took part in the Sunday School program and the church supported Cub Scout troop. Additionally, Gregory served in Voices in Praise, the children's choir. He also played on the church sponsored First United Boys Basketball Team. As a young adult, Gregory became a member of McClintock PCUSA where his father, the Rev. Dr. Gregory M. Busby Sr. serves as Minister.

Although not himself an athlete, Gregory was a passionate supporter of the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed basketball, becoming a staunch fan of the Charlotte Hornets. In addition to an appreciation for Charlotte's professional sports franchises, young Gregory enjoyed drawing and playing computer games and/or video games. Those who knew him best describe him as forthright and unfailingly honest and direct. He loved his family; he was dependable; he was also a firm believer in the power of prayer. And to his younger sister, Gregory was also "a big Teddy Bear" and a very special "Love Muffin."

Gregory Marc Busby, II leaves behind to both mourn and celebrate his life his parents, Gregory Marc Busby Sr., and Katrena Willoughby Busby; his beloved younger sister and champion, Kayla Busby; his grandmother Gussie Marie Busby, his grandfather B.T. Busby, and a host of other relatives, friends, church and community members who watched him grow up and prayed for him as he grew.
