Gregory E. Richardson Sr., son of the late Thomas Lee Richardson, Jr. and Geraldine Gore Richardson, was born July 10, 1951, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Coach Richardson went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Coach Richardson worked for several HBCU Institutions as a football coach and athletic director. His life's passion was to impact the lives of young men through teaching them life principles beyond the game of football. He was a 1969 graduate of Harding High School and a 1974 graduate of North Carolina Central University.

He leaves to cherish warm memories, his wife, Cheryl Richardson; two sons, Esmond D. Richardson (Brendetta) and Gregory E. Richardson Jr.; three daughters, Ericka L. Richardson, Shamara S. Boyles-Roman (Darren) and Tamara M. Bullock; grandchildren, Ebony Richardson, Courtney Richardson, Emmanuel Richardson, Evan Richardson, Kimyatta Faust-Richardson, KeAirrica Richardson, Kayla Richardson, Sharnee Boyles, Sade'ja Boyles, Saibreon Boyles, Tai 'Jae Boyles, Tenaia Boyles, and Trevon Boyles; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald A. Richardson; three sisters, Gail R. Wylie (Ricco), Genise L. Black (Paul), and Gwana R. Chambers (Ronald), all of Charlotte, NC; cousins, Lois G. Thompson (Ronald), Willie Gore (Leila) and Carolyn Hankins; two sisters-in-law, Barbie Clegg of Richmond, VA and Julie Richardson of Perrysburg, OH; two brothers-in-law, Lamont E. Clegg of Kissimmee, FL and Bryan Clegg (Donna) of Richmond, VA.

Coach Richardson was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn L. Richardson (Oct. 2015), Gary M. Richardson (Dec. 2015) and Gaylord T. Richardson (Sept. 2016).
