Obituary

Grover Lorenzo Buford, affectionately known as "CoCo" age 60, departed this life peacefully in the arms of his loving wife on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at their home in Alexandria, Virginia after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Lorenzo was born on August 11, 1961, to Grover Cleveland Buford and Patricia H. Buford in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Harry P. Harding and served in the United States Air Force as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician for 10 years and then as a Telephone & Data Circuitry Equipment Specialist.

Lorenzo was passionate about his love for God, his wife, family & friends.  He was an extraordinary husband, a wonderful father, a savvy businessman and a faithful friend.  He was a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia where he served on the Usher Board and the Homeless Outreach Ministry.  He was a generous giver of his time, talents and resources and was a blessing to many, often going above and beyond expectations.

In 2006, Lorenzo met and married the love of his life, Sharon, whom he referred to as "Sweets", the same endearment she used for him.  Through this beautiful, solid union, they built several successful businesses:  The Buford Company, LLC, a video and access control security company and Initial Homecare Services, LLC (adult group homes for the intellectually disabled).

Lorenzo worked hard, and he enjoyed life and all it had to offer.  He traveled extensively with his wife, loved having a good time socializing with family and friends, and loved sports, especially football and his favorite team, the Carolina Panthers.

Lorenzo is survived by his wife: Sharon V. Buford (VA); his mother: Patricia H. Buford (NC); sister: Pamela Buford-Foster (DE); children: Omar Buford (NC), Patrice Buford (NC), Kay Israel ( AZ), Initia Walker (VA); godson, Nicholas Burke (FL); grandson, Daniel Israel (AZ); nieces: Patientce Y. Foster (DE), Patara Foster Sims (DE), (Christopher T. Sims); great nephews: Brave Foster Anderson (DE), Peyton C. Sims (DE), Christian C. Sims (DE), and a host of cousins, uncles, aunts and many, many friends.

"I have lived a good life.  I met the love of my life, Sweets, and now I am going to see the Giver of Life. No regrets."
