Gwendolyn Hutchinson, 69, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at her residence in Charlotte, NC.
Gwendolyn Hutchinson, affectionately known as “Gaeball,” was born on November 20, 1956, and passed away peacefully at her home in Charlotte, North Carolina, on February 1, 2026, at the age of 69, after a long and courageous battle with illness.
Gwendolyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend whose life was rooted in family, sacrifice, and love. She was the proud mother of her only daughter, and the bond they shared was unbreakable—one of loyalty, strength, and deep devotion.
She found Christ and lived her faith daily, allowing it to guide how she loved and how she lived. Known for being organized and deeply principled, Gwendolyn believed in truth. When she would say, “Imma tell you what God loves,” you knew you were about to get the real—the truth, with love.
Throughout her life, Gwendolyn nurtured family, friends, and neighbors who needed guidance, stability, or compassion. She had a gift for bringing people together, whether through her epic Mother’s Day cookouts or her memorable lasagna dinners, creating moments filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Her grandsons held a special place in her heart. She absolutely adored Dantevius, Devin, and Denver, taking great pride in each of them and following their lives closely. Her joy expanded even further with the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Lauryn Allura Tiara Hutchinson, who brought her immense happiness and love.
She was steady, loyal, and present, and when she asked, “Who you wit,” there was no question where she stood.
She was baptized on August 5, 2024, a milestone that held great meaning in her faith journey. She worked for many years at Carolinas Medical Center and was known for her dedication and strong work ethic until her health no longer allowed her to continue.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Hutchinson; her sister, Ernie Hutchinson Pate; and her lifelong friend, Geraldine Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cassandra D. Hutchinson (Jesse Collins); her grandsons, Dantevius Hutchinson, Devin Hutchinson, and Denver Collins; her great-granddaughter, Lauryn Allura Tiara Hutchinson; her mother, Nancy F. Hutchinson; her sister, Beverly A. Hutchinson; and her brothers, Sammie L. Frazier (Pamela), Roosevelt Frazier, and Paul Hutchinson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including Velma McCoy, with whom Gwendolyn shared a close and loving bond.
Gwendolyn “Gaeball” Hutchinson will be remembered for her family, her sacrifice, and the deep, steady love she gave to those she held close.
