Gwendolyn Howard McCarroll, 78, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at her residence in Charlotte, NC.

Gwendolyn Howard McCarroll, 78, was born on September, 13, 1947, to the late James Howard and Beatrice Liggins Howard. She transitioned into her heavenly home on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

Gwendolyn was educated in the Guilford County school system graduating from James B. Dudley High School in 1966. She continued her education at the historic Bennett College in Greensboro, NC. An excellent student, Gwendolyn completed her education at UNCC where she earned a BS degree in education. She was also an avid member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Teaching was her passion. She taught for 39 years believing that every child could succeed. Dedicated to her field she taught at several schools, retiring from North Mecklenburg High School after 39 years. 

While living in Greensboro, she joined Moten Temple Holiness Church at an early age. After marrying and moving to Charlotte, she became a member of First United Presbyterian Church where she was a faithful member. 

It was during her education at Bennett College where she met and later married the late Arthur Tyrone McCarroll. To this union were born two sons Christopher and John McCarroll. She was a dedicated wife and mother until her health began to fail. 

In addition to her parents and spouse, Gwendolyn was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Howard Hairston and Diane Howard. 

Gwendolyn leaves to cherish her memories: sons Christopher (Valerie) and John; grandson Kendall Tyrone; brothers James L. Howard (Penny), Youzar Howard (Joyline), Garcia Howard (Victoria), and Jerry Howard; brother n law Jasper Hairston; a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
