Obituary

Mr. Harry A. Foster, 85 of Charlotte, passed away on Friday February 08, 2019 at Kiser Hospice House Salisbury NC.  He was born in McDowell County, Caretta, West Virginia on July 17, 1933, to the late Edward Foster and Leola Wilson.  He was one of eight children.

As a young man, he worked in the coal mines of West Virginia until drafted by the U.S. Army and served from 1953 until 1955.  Upon being honorably discharged, he migrated to Hackensack, New Jersey in hopes of finding employment  There he met Anna Patricia Wells, whom he affectionately called "Patsy," and they married on November 23, 1961. Out of that union came two children, Harry Jr. and Scott "Fraz."

Harry was an industrious and reliable worker.  His strong work ethic lead to him having his own cleaning and waxing business for many decades.  He later secured a position as a building service supervisor at The Record newspaper and worked there from 1985 until 2001.

Harry absolutely loved his grandchildren.  They fondly called him "Boompa."  As babies, he would rock them to sleep on his belly and they would sleep so long, that Scott nicknamed his belly "the breathing pillow"."  He instilled in them a love for the outdoors and would spend hours taking them from one park to another where he would get off work and on the weekends.

In August of 2012, Harry and Patsy moved to Charlotte, NC to enjoy their retirement years and to be closer to family.  Harry could often be found sitting outside, getting fresh air and enjoying the sunshine.  His great sense of humor and his infectious laugh will be sorely missed.

Harry was preceded in death by siblings, Edward Foster, Geneva Foster, Ethel Smith, Robert Lee Foster and Jessie "Pinchie" Foster.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Patsy; sons, Harry Foster and Scott Foster; daughter-in-law, Tammy Foster, Dinorah Foster and Dorinda Foster; daughter, Carol Dogans; grandchildren, Ayanna Foster, Caleb Foster, Dana Foster, Amina Foster, Isaiah Foster, Billy Calloway and Dionne Calloway; great-grandchildren, Shaquan Calloway, William Calloway, Nashama Calloway and Shai Calloway; sisters, Annabel Hynson and Betty Stith; sister-in-law, Ella Mary Foster; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
