Harry Eugene Sloan Jr., 75, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026 at his residence in Charlotte, NC.

Harry Eugene “Smokey” Sloan, Jr., age 75, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, July 10, 2026. He was born on March 9, 1951, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Harry Eugene Sloan, Sr. and Madge Derr Sloan.

Shortly after graduating high school, Harry enlisted in the United States Army where he served primarily as a food service technician. During his short but impactful military career, he served one tour in Vietnam, and he proudly embraced his military service. After he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1975, he held several jobs, but his most loved occupation was driving eighteen wheelers. He was a very skilled truck driver for decades.

Harry married his longtime sweetheart and love of his life, Lela Janet Kimble, on May 4, 2002. Harry was affectionally known as “Smokey” by all who knew and loved him. He was a very caring and loving person who always extended a helping hand to those in need and possessed the ability to get along with anyone. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing and he was an avid Carolina Panthers fan.

Harry was preceded in death by his father, Harry Eugene Sloan Sr.; mother, Madge Derr Sloan; wife, Lela Janet Kimble; sister, Constance Renee Sloan; brothers, Jerry Benard Sloan and Henry Jackson Sloan; and daughter, Silena House.

He is survived by his sister, Wanda Kimble; brother, Gregory Sloan (Mary); sister-in-law, Jessie Sloan; sons, Terry Massey (Angela) and Charles Massey (Nicole); daughters, Michelle Massey and Carlletha Massey; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Harry enjoyed a life full of love and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
